September 22 to November 6, 2016
Opening: Wednesday, September 21 at 6 pm

This exhibition will feature the work of Quebec illustrator and animator Michèle Lemieux, a professor at the UQAM School of Design. The exhibition will focus on her sketches for animated films that she created for the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) between 2003 and 2012.

In addition, while the artist is working on a new film, the public will have a unique opportunity to see her preliminary sketches and her visual experiments on a pinboard, an instrument invented in France by Alexander Alexeïeff and Claire Parker and owned by the NFB. A publication, pour ne pas interrompre le geste, will accompany the exhibition.

The exhibition is produced by the UQAM Centre de Design and presented in collaboration with the National Film Board of Canada and the Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée (France). It was made possible through the financial support of the Canada Council for the Arts.

Notes Vagabondes is a retrospective of posters by Nelu Wolfensohn, Professor at the UQAM School of Design and honorary member of the Société des designers graphiques du Québec. Selected mainly from designs for international competitions, the posters deal with current political, social or cultural topics relevant both to Quebec and to universal issues of our age. The exhibition catalogue, Notes vagabondes, will be published digitally on the Web.

Wolfensohn’s works are exhibited and published regularly and appear in museums, libraries and private collections. Twenty-seven of his posters are in the permanent collection of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) and he is the only Canadian poster artist whose work was included in the MMFA 2012 publication Decorative Arts and Design. Wolfensohn was the only Canadian designer invited to participate in the World’s Best Poster Designers Exhibition 2015 at the 1st International Poster Festival of Shenzhen, in China.
