ORBICOM, the international network of UNESCO chairs in communication, hosted by UQAM, is the proud sponsor of an international declaration inviting communication professionals and researchers to get involved for a healthier world.

Montréal, le 19 janvier 2021 – ORBICOM, the international network of UNESCO chairs in communication hosted by UQAM, is the proud sponsor of the International Declaration of Communications Professionals and Researchers for a healthier, viable, better world.

Driven by communication specialists and researchers concerned by the global health emergency and the growing climate crisis, this declaration is a commitment to humanist values that aim to mobilize broad solidarity throughout the world. By endorsing the Declaration, members of the professional and scientific communication communities publicly commit to putting their expertise to work in supporting societies for the necessary transition to healthier values.

By his support to the Declaration, Oumar Kane, ORBICOM’s Secretary General and professor at the Département de communication sociale et publique at UQAM, launched a strong appeal to this effect. “In these uncertain times, communication must emerge as a force that can nourish hope, action and social resilience. It is clear to us that inaction and withdrawal have no place in the face of the emergencies of our time.”

To emphasize the strength and solidarity of this gesture between associations, organizations, collectives, agencies, federations, professional and scientific networks, in all regions of the world, this declaration will circulate in six languages : French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German. “It is a privilege for ORBICOM, the international network of UNESCO chairs in communication, to become its standard-bearer today,” said Oumar Kane.
