Montréal, January 30, 2025 – Galerie de l’UQAM welcomes From beginning to end, from end to beginning, an exhibition by Marion Schneider, a graduating master’s student in Visual and Media Arts at UQAM. The project focuses on the poetic and political potential of technological tools fostering a queer and ecological perspective.

From beginning to end, from end to beginning invites us to pause, take a breath, and inhabit the unease of our shared ecological condition. Emerging from a process of hacktivist and queer research-creation, the installation explores the potential of digital art through an ecological lens. The work envisions a world beyond binaries, where blending, hybridity, and transformation take shape.

Set against an ambient and melancholic soundscape composed by the artist, the exhibition introduces two sensitive machines, crafted from repurposed technological objects, curved steel rods, and 3D-printed elements. One appears as a ChatGPT robot, offering hourly apologies to a rock in the form of real-time poems. The other, inspired by the design of an IV pole, invites visitors to trigger its tears, watering a nearby plant.

The installation immerses visitors in warm light and a soundscape that slow down the perception of time. Within this immersive sensory environment, sadness and calm coexist, fostering an intimate experience that is both reflective and participatory. Marion Schneider weaves narratives in which plants, minerals, and humans intersect, imagining new forms of cohabitation and offering a poetic gesture of repair for the world.
