Stagiaire jeunes pousses 1

April 26, 2018 – Following a call for applications that went out in October 2017, the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) have revealed the names of the eight apprentices who will take part in the second Jeunes Pousses interactive program. The nine-week apprenticeship (April 25 to June 21, 2018) will give students from a variety of UQAM programs the chance to work together at the NFB’s Digital Studio, under the guidance of executive producer Hugues Sweeney. They’ll create an interactive multiplatform project around the theme of metamorphosis to be launched in fall 2018. Besides benefiting from a multidisciplinary experience in a real production environment, participants will attend master classes led by acclaimed artists and professionals from various fields: Émilie F. Grenier (NFB), Marc-Antoine Jacques and David Mongeau-Petitpas (Folklore), Bruno Choinière (Akufen), Amélia Blondin (URBANIA), Marie-Laurence Rancourt (Magnéto), Sarah Babineau (RAD) and Vincent Morisset (AATOAA).

The NFB and UQAM: a fruitful collaboration where talent meets know-how
UQAM trains talented young people in a multitude of arts- and communications-related disciplines, from new media to documentary. The NFB draws on this rich resource to concoct creative syntheses that yield surprising new works. As part of this exploration of new ways of producing multiplatform content, the Jeunes Pousses program doesn’t just target emerging talent, but also new audiences. A further aim of the program is to encourage parity—and early on, during training—in key creative positions for interactive works at the NFB. The two institutions have another ongoing collaboration: Repêchage, an initiative through which three graduates of UQAM’s School of Media (École des médias) produce their first professional film at the NFB French Program’s Documentary Studio. The talented trio selected for this first edition are director Loïc Darses, director of photography Charlotte Lacoursière and editor Philippe Lefebvre, whose film is to be launched in fall 2018 or winter 2019.

Déroutes, un voyage sonore au cœur de Montréal
Last October, the first cohort of Jeunes Pousses apprentices launched Déroutes, un voyage sonore au cœur de Montréal, a free app for iOS that features French-speaking new Montrealers discussing their first experiences riding the Montreal metro. The app is available for downloading in the App Store.
