December 13, 2010 – Here is what’s coming to the Galerie de l’UQAM this winter.

Shary Boyle: Flesh and Blood
Curator: Louise Déry
January 7 to February 12, 2011
Vernissage: Thursday January 6 at 5:30 p.m.

thumb_SBoyle_BurdenThe Galerie de l’UQAM is presenting a solo show by Shary Boyle, winner of the 2010 Hnatyshyn Award and one of the most fascinating artists of the current Canadian scene. The exhibition includes some thirty works produced since 2006 in disciplines as diverse as sculpture, porcelain, oil painting, drawing and installation. The show includes miniatures and large-format works, portraits and genre scenes, most of them displayed for the first time. Shary Boyle: Flesh and Blood was initially presented at the Art Gallery of Ontario this past fall to mark the artist’s Gershon Iskowitz Prize win. A bilingual publication will accompany the project.

Fiona Tan: Rise and Fall

February 25 – April 2, 2011 
Vernissage: Thursday, February 4 at 5:30 p.m.

The Galerie de l'UQAM will present recent works by Dutch artist Fiona Tan, whose Netherlands pavilion exhibition impressed visitors to the 2009 Venice Biennale. Fiona Tan: Rise and Fall features a selection of videos that reveal the breadth of themes and methods used by the artist to construct powerful narratives.

Co-organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery and Aargauer Kunsthaus, Switzerland, and presented at the Galerie de l’UQAM with the support of the Mondriaan Foundation, the Canadian Heritage Museums Assistance Program, and the Canada Council for the Arts.

  

Passage à découvert 2011
Exhibition of graduating students in the Baccalaureate in Visual and Media Arts.

The UQAM École des arts visuels et médiatiques (EAVM) presents their annual exhibition showcasing the work of graduating students in the Baccalaureate program in Visual and Media Arts.

 

Conte crépusculaire
An experimental project by David Altmejd and Pierre Lapointe
May 4 – 7, 2011, at 8 p.m. and
May 7, 2011, at 4 p.m.

The Galerie de l’UQAM and Productions 3PM Inc. present Conte crépusculaire [Twilight Tale], a lyrical, visual fairytale by artist David Altmejd and composer-performer Pierre Lapointe. At the Galerie de l’UQAM from May 4 –7, 2011, this presentation will transport the audience to a world of tragic allegory and exquisite beauty.

Anne-Marie Ouellet: Faction
Graduating Master’s student in Visual and Media Arts at UQAM
May 4 – 28, 2011
Vernissage: Tuesday, May 3 at 5:30 p.m.

Like a micro-organization, the Faction project appropriates regimental and bureaucratic strategies. A group of uniformed participants meet periodically, receive instructions and carry out actions in public, private and commercial spaces. The project questions the standards governing behaviour in these various types of space through acts of movement, occupation and simulation.
